Car mirror glue: Get back in the driver’s seat

Artificial Content Title -- to be hidden

The side mirror on your car is broken and it’s time for a trip to the mechanic? Not necessarily! With the right car mirror glue you can carry out small repairs on your own. Our guide to choosing and using the best glue for car side mirrors will make it even simpler.

How to use car mirror glue

Here’s how to remove a broken side mirror and install the replacement using car mirror glue:

  1. Remove the old car mirror. Use a heat gun to soften the old adhesive, then gently remove the glass with a flat-headed screwdriver.
  2. Clean and dry the plastic backing.
  3. Apply the car mirror glue to the back of the mirror, about half an inch from the edge. Then install the new mirror, pressing it firmly into place. Remove any excess glue with a damp cloth.
  4. Keep the mirror in place while curing. Use masking tape to keep the mirror secured until the glue has cured. Check the manufacturer’s instructions for the cure time.

The best glue for car mirrors

When choosing the best glue for car mirrors you have to consider the materials carefully. Check the back of the mirror and look for a glue or epoxy that is suitable for the surfaces you need to bond.

Your best bet is an epoxy glue for car side mirrors or any other glue or adhesive that’s labelled for use on mirrors, such as an automotive silicone mirror adhesive. Silicone adhesives are a good choice due to their strength and elasticity. Make sure the glue you choose is weatherproof, as it will have to be able to withstand the elements.

If you need to re-attach the side mirror, use a super-strength adhesive such as Loctite Super Glue Liquid Universal. Do not use it for the glass itself, though. For this, Loctite Super Glue Glass is ideal. It creates strong, invisible bonds in just a few seconds.
