Who doesn’t love super glue? It is quick and easy to use and can repair almost anything. Of course, the properties that make it a great glue occasionally also lead to mishaps, such as glue getting stuck in places you don’t want it to. Adhesive remover: The best way to get rid of glue residue
If the parts you tried to repair haven’t bonded properly, or you’ve spilled glue on your workbench, furniture or clothes, the best way to remove adhesive is Loctite’s Glue Remover. This adhesive remover can be used on many different types of surfaces, clothes and even skin.
Simply follow the instructions and you’ll be able to remove the adhesive residue in no time.
- Open the tube of the adhesive remover by twisting the cap clockwise until it locks, then twisting it anti-clockwise until it opens.
- Cover the stained or badly bonded area with Loctite Glue Remover.
- Put a folded tissue or paper towel on top of treated area and leave it for a couple of hours.
- Discard the tissue or paper towel and wipe the area clean with a fresh one. Rinse or wash with water and dry the area thoroughly.
- For large stains simply repeat the process several times until the stain disappears.
Loctite Glue Remover can be used to remove stains from clothes too. Simply place a folded tissue or paper towel on both sides of the affected area, leave for a few hours and your clothes will be good as new.
Getting rid of glue residue without adhesive remover
If you don’t have Loctite’s Glue Remover handy you can use other methods to get rid of the glue residue – such as using a plastic scraper, acetone (nail varnish remover) or heat.
How to remove glue residue with tools
If you act quickly enough, you can simply wipe the glue spill off with a wet cloth. Or you can use everyday tools such as plastic scrapers or even razor blades to get rid of excess glue. Using these, you can scrape the glue off and trim around the edges. Take care not to damage softer materials or yourself.
How to remove glue residue with heat
Some types of glue can be removed by exposing them to heat, for example, the labels on glass bottles or jars. We recommend applying gentle heat using your hairdryer.
How to remove glue residue with chemicals
You can remove glue residue with a glue dissolving solvent or homemade glue remover, such as cooking oil, rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) or acetone (nail varnish remover).
If you only have a small amount of residue to remove then you can soak the affected area in a standard cooking oil like vegetable, sunflower or olive oil. Simply let it soak into the glue residue for about an hour, before wiping it off.
If the staining is heavier, then you might need to try acetone or rubbing alcohol. Again, just let any of these solvents soak in to the stain and leave for an hour or so before wiping it off.
